Released under a freedom of information request, the information sheds new light on how government analysts are instructed to patrol the internet searching for domestic and external threats. » via Daily Mail “Pork” makes sense in context. The government (and by that I mean the CDC and FDA) should monitor public social media posts. Social media got news of the earthquake last year from VA to NY before we even felt it. Makes sense that social media can predict health threats. Most of these actually make sense in certain contexts. The problem isn’t that there are keywords that light up the surveillance software, it’s what they are using the surveillance software for. If you post something for all the world to see, you have no one to blame but yourself, but when information is kept private by the user, there is a violation.
